Lightweight Coats for Those In-Between Days

Fresh and new fashions for Spring

The moment April arrives, I can’t help but look at my everyday winter coat say: “I. Am. Done. With. You.” But it’s not like summer arrives in an instant and we go from wool overcoats to cotton T’s overnight. April, May, and sometimes early June are the in-between days of spring: it’s too warm for a bulky winter coat, but not warm enough to frolic without a protective layer of some kind. The key is to find the perfect garment to keep you warm but not overheated.

Flexibility is a plus. Midday sun heats up the atmosphere but dusk leaves us out in the cold. And those clouds on horizon look like rain. That’s why removable linings, belts and hoods are useful for instant adjustments in response to the changes in the weather that happen in the course of a spring day. Leather is always a good bet. Treated leathers can hold up to spring showers, and they are both breathable and insulating.

And although I am one of those black-goes-with-everything kind of girls, I do enjoy a punch of color in spring. And since lightweight coats don’t tend to get as gray and grimy as our winter coats, it might be a good time of year to add a little ivory or a pop of color to the repertoire.

Moncler’s Maglia Knit Puffer Combo Jacket with Peplum Hem

I love a puffer vest, but sometimes it is a nuisance to figure out what to wear underneath it. Moncler simplifies things by making the puffer and sweater into a single garment with the Maglia Knit Puffer Combo jacket. It features a quilted nylon front with wool-knit sleeves and posterior. A peplum hem adds a whimsical touch, and the drawcord waist makes it easy to customize the fit according to what you’re wearing underneath.

If you still think that all raincoats look like those plastic shells we wore as kids to splash around in puddles, then it’s time to change your worldview. Stutterheim Raincoats, made by a small company in Sweden, are constructed of PVC-coated poly-cotton which means they’ll keep you dry without making you feel like you’re wearing a plastic bag.
