Kate Spade: Making Waves for Spring

Kate Spade releases new fragrance, spring line that delights & inspires

Kate Spade is the ultimate women’s brand to embrace femininity. Bright colors, bursts of floral, whimsical handbag designs – it’s also the brand that will make you contract (a very poised) spring fever. After being acquired by Tapestry (the powerhouse formally known as Coach that also recently acquired Stuart Weitzman) in November 2017, long-time Kate Spade devotees were a bit apprehensive. Would the vastly different aesthetics clash?

But, in only six short months, Tapestry has proven that the playful fancy of the Kate Spade flair is here to stay. Executive decisions are clearly leading the brand in the right direction. In March, the company announced a new woman CEO, former Michael Kors exec Anna Bakst, and it’s diversified their models for greater inclusion. They are currently holding a series of events across major American cities, featuring local artists who hand-paint beautiful flowers on their signature handbags. ELYSIAN picked some of our favorite newly arrived items from Kate Spade NY.

In Full Bloom

Kate Spade’s new spring fragrance definitely deserves some attention. First of all, it smells fantastic (imagine the lush, vibrant scent of a botanical garden) with notes of full-bloom roses, peonies and lotus petals, highlighted by hints of green tea and peach. Second, it is the forefront of their campaign to inspire and empower women that are unabashedly feminine. Following in the footsteps of CoverGirl’s decision to cast 69-year-old Maye Musk, they’ve cast Lauren Dern, age 51, to be one of the faces of the new fragrance, along with model/activist Sasheer Zamata, and writer/publisher Tavi Gevinson.

Arm Candy

Kate Spade sold its first handbag in January 1993 and ever since, their handbags have developed a kind of cult following. Now in the year of their 25th anniversary, their designs range from whimsical clutches for a playful evening element to straw totes perfect for mid-afternoon picnics to refined leather crossbody bags for the professional woman. No matter your aesthetic, you’re sure to find the perfect bag. (Our favorite part? Their “Make it Mine” flaps that snap onto your bag and monogramming options for the ultimate customization of your look.)
