Twelve All-Star Spring Suits For the Office

Dressing for the office doesn’t have to be drab – it can be fabulous.

When the weather starts heating up, I find it impossible to wear my hard-hitting navy and black suits for anything other than the most serious professional occasions. I might pair a fitted blazer with a denim mini, or wear an oversized boyfriend blazer with leggings or skinny jeans, but head-to-toe corporate just doesn’t feel right when the sun is shining overhead, and the wind is gently blowing in a manner that is reminiscent of a seabreeze.

We can’t very well show up at the office in flip-flops (or can we?), but a bright-colored blazer with a touch of whimsy hits all the bases. My twelve all-star suiting options for the office:

1. Double Breasted Windowpane Plaid Jacket

Leave it to Topshop, Britain’s premiere high-street label, to design a versatile suit that works day and night, and can even be employed on the weekends (with the right accessories). The green-and-black window pane plaid is best paired with a simple black t-shirt, but over a colorful striped top, it is transformed into a stylish act of rebellion.

2. Escada Brikenanto Floral Jacket

Jeans, a pencil skirt, a shift dress, a slip dress, a leather skirt. This Escada blazer is so cheerful and elegant that you can put it on over just about anything and it will elevate your entire look.

3. Alexander McQueen Drape-Detail One-Button Blazer

Taking the mundane and making it exceptional with small, unexpected details has become the trademark of Sarah Burton’s work at the helm of Alexander McQueen. Pair this unique crimson blazer with matching trousers and a jewel-toned kitten heel for a sophisticated office look that is ready to dance off into the evening.

4. St. John Knit Tweed Jacket

The tweed jacket has become a trademark of St. John’s aesthetic, but the fringe cuffs and intricate weaving make this rayon-cashmere-wool blend a showstopper. Wear it over navy trousers or a pencil shirt for the office and add a wrist full of bangles and a bold cocktail ring for evening.

5. Jonathan Simkhai Stapled Crepe Blazer

Cut-out arm accents add interest and intrigue to an otherwise simple petal-colored blazer. Wear it over a black sleeveless shift to make its details pop, or atop a white base for subtlety.

6. Topshop Taupe Stripe Double Breasted Blazer

The 80s-style double-breasted blazer with a loose silhouette is a key look this spring. Wear it over a plain white t-shirt, and pair it with jeans or a pencil shirt. The Cream Multi stripe print is bold but still ladylike.

7. Alexander Wang Front Tuxedo Jacket

Alexander Wang’s elegant tuxedo jacket with a tied front is a subtle nod to the iconic “Le Smoking” jacket designed by Yves Saint Laurent in 1966. Like the original, Wang’s tuxedo jacket can be worn day or night, for work or play, as long as you don’t mind being interrupted umpteen times by passersby inquiring about the origin of your jacket.

8. Balenciaga Hourglass Prince of Whales Blazer

The extreme hourglass shape is in – and you can achieve it without all the extra work with this hourglass blazer from Balenciaga. The lightly padded shoulders and sculptural silhouette transform you into a walking, talking work of art.

10. Rosetta Getty Stretch-ponte Blazer

Nothing says bold, adventurous, powerful like red. Inspired by the work of Georgia O’Keeffe, Rosetta Getty designed her Spring 2018 collection with the same monochromatic styling of the iconic artist. The cinching waist of this stretch-ponte blazer is infinitely feminine, and the bright red is robustly authoritative.
