Royal Fashionistas

ELYSIAN’s Fantasy Looks for a Queen and Four Princesses

Sure, we love Meghan and Kate just as much as you do, and we follow their globe-trotting,  child-raising, banana bread-baking antics as much as anyone. But we have to admit that our inner fashionista has a roving eye, and we’ve found fashion inspiration from royals other than Meghan and Kate. In fact, we have a whole scenario worked out wherein Elysian styles our favorite royals from head to toe.

Princess Eugenie of York

Let’s start with Princess Eugenie of York. A fellow British royal, she is the daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson. She works as an art gallery director in London, and acts as a spokesperson for several charities such as Teenage Cancer Trust and Children in Crisis. In October 2018, she married her longtime sweetheart, Jack Brooksbank in a modest gown by British designer Peter Pilotto, but we think her youthful, carefree style is best captured by her fellow Brit, Stella McCartney.

We see Eugenie in an asymmetric ruffled midi dress with PU and white faux mules with a Falabella chained shoulder bag and a ruffled trench.

Princess Charlene of Monaco

It’s impossible to ignore Princess Charlene of Monaco, the statuesque former Olympic swimmer from South Africa who married Prince Albert II in 2011. She wears an evening gown with admirable grace and aplomb, and still sports an admirable swimmer’s physique even as a 40-something mother of two. We see her in Carolina Herrera who is known for her elegant and classic dresses that have graced royal women and first ladies for decades.

No stranger to metallics, we’d dress Princess Charlene in the Fil Coupe Chiffon gown, straight from the label’s Fall 2018 collection, the last to be designed by Carolina before her retirement. Paired with some silver sandals and an embellished pouch, and the Princess will have a look that’s fit for a Queen.

Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana of Thailand

But not all of our favorite royal fashionistas are from Europe. We’re wild about Thailand’s Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana, a fashion designer in her own right (she studied design at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok) who is also reportedly a ferocious badminton player. She has a serious penchant for Italian designer Giambattista Valli, and we totally understand why. His style combines romance and modernity in a way that totally complements Princess Siri’s petite frame.

We’d dress her in this black and pink silk flouncy mini from Valli’s Fall 2018 collection with a tiny wristlet and statement earrings.

Princess Maria-Olympia of Greece and Denmark was born in New York, raised in London, and once served as an intern in the couture department at Dior in Paris. She studied art history and theatre at boarding school in Switzerland, and appeared as a model in Teen Vogue, Tatler and Town & Country. We know that Princess M loves her European designers, and she’s got a envy-inducing midriff (and the courage to bear abs.

We think she would look amazing in this magnificent silk cut-out gown from Aussie Dion Lee. Paired with stilettos and an evening pouch, and Princess M is poised to dance the night away.

Queen Letizia of Spain

Queen Letizia of Spain wowed the world this week with her plunging lace neckline in a blue midi dress at an event she attended with her husband, King Felipe VI, to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Spanish constitution. But then again, the former journalist, who grew up a middle-class Spanish family, has always paved her own bold path in both fashion and life. Queen Letizia looks exquisite in red, which is presumably why she often appears in shades of crimson, oxblood or ruby.

We think she would rock this Naeem Khan like nobody’s business, but of course it would be everybody’s business because that’s what happens when La Reina wears a dress.
