The White Shirt is A Staple for Any Season, But It’s Far From Basic
She was a Hollywood newcomer, and he was a has-been, but that dance between Uma Thurman and John Travolta at Jack Rabbit Slim’s in Pulp Fiction made an indelible mark on the public consciousness, and shot the ingenue and the former star into the stratosphere. And what was our heroine wearing during her icon-making moment? Nothing salacious or flashy. Just the opposite, it was a fitted, untucked crisp white shirt. Proof positive that sometimes the most alluring wardrobe choice you can make is also the simplest.
Remember Sharon Stone’s 1998 Oscar look? The lilac Vera Wang skirt with a white Gap button-down has proven to be one of her most memorable style choices. Yep, a white shirt can be paired with anything from a denim to eveningwear, and if the fit and silhouette are correct, the result will always be the same: sublime.
This fall, designers are offering some innovative renditions of the seasonless wardrobe staple.
