All over the South, new stores are opening every day, and here are some of my picks for what’s new and nice near you.
The Shops at Buckhead Atlanta, 3035 Peachtree Road NE, Suiting and lifestyle brand Robert Talbott opened two new boutiques, one in Manhattan and the other at The Shops in Buckhead in Atlanta. This store is a favorite of mine for men’s gifts that are classic, sophisticated and a bit edgy. The Pretty Nuts Cufflinks were the perfect thing for the Wall Street men in my life, and the Rose Silver Octopus cufflinks with onyx eyes were a real conversation starter.
Ponce City Market, 675 Ponce de Leon NE, will welcome South Carolina-based Candlefish, made famous for its fragrance library of handmade candles, with over 100 fragrances, coming soon across the breezeway from Archer Goods and next door to Alex & Ani. I’m partial to their New York candle; they match the scent to your favorite places with fragrance notes of amber, mineral, birch and patchouli, in an elegant glass jar with tin lid. Candlefish also offers candle making classes. I have known the brand through Birchbox and Anthropologie in NYC, and I am a bit of a candle aficionado, so highly recommended.
Atlanta’s Westside has exploded with new shops, apartments, and restaurants — and the epicenter is Westside Provisions District, 1100-1210 Howell Mill Road. Modern furnishings giant Design Within Reach will relocate from Buckhead to this triple-sized space, with a Spring 2017 projected opening. I am sitting in my favorite and fabulous desk chair — it happens to be the Aeron Chair, designed by Don Chadwick and Bill Stumpf for Herman Miller — that my designer purchased from DWR in NYC.
In Northpark, 8687 North Central Expressway, Rebecca Taylor is opening in Spring 2017. I love her Taylor Ruffled Leather Jacket, made from ultra-soft washed leather with a cinched waist and delicate ruffle collar for an unexpectedly femme twist. I wear this over my favorite Narciso Rodriguez day dresses for a touch of modern.
NYX Cosmetics is opening Summer 2017, and I (my makeup artist, actually) am fond of some of their high-quality, professional products with super rich pigments. The High Definition Eye Shadow Base is revolutionary, and Tame & Frame Brow Pomade is a good humidity defense; both highly recommended.
South Park Mall Charlotte, 4400 Sharon Road, has 150-plus stores, including Porsche Design, Apple, Burberry, Louis Vuitton, Lilly Pulitzer, Neiman Marcus, and Tiffany & Co. This premier shopping epicenter is Charlotte’s Madison Avenue. The Frye Company recently opened, and I have been gifting the women’s Campus Lace Glove for NYC weather. It is a pretty little corset glove.
Swedish fashion retailer H&M is on its way to Concord Mills, 8111 Concord Mills Boulevard (12 miles from downtown Charlotte), that will open Spring 2017 replacing Saks Fifth Avenue Off 5th. This will make 10 locations in the Tar Heel State and will feature the complete collection: ladies, men, children, accessories, maternity and sports apparel. Concord Mill is the second-largest shopping center in the Charlotte region.
The Mall at University Town Center, 140 University Town Center Drive, Sarasota, is one of the only new large malls in the country, with 125 retailers and restaurants in 880,000 square feet. The Mall at UTC is where to go for the Apple Store, Microsoft Store, and even Tesla Motors, plus fashionistas’ favorites Vince Camuto, H&M and Dillards. With the closing of Saks Fifth Avenue at WestShore Plaza, the Mall at UTC is the only place to find everyone’s favorite designer department store in the greater Tampa Bay area. What’s new is Kate Hudson’s Fabletics, what I love to wear to my Pilates classes. On the men’s side, there’s a new Refinery, for great grooming products, and a new Hugo Boss, for that European style.
F21 Red is now open at Westfield Sarasota Square, 8201 S. Tamiami Trail. This is a new concept from fast fashion retailer Forever 21 and set in a gigantic 26,000 square feet. Forever 21, which started with a small store in Los Angeles in 1984, became a smash hit with American teenagers, and the idea with this concept is to give them more of the styles they want at the lowest prices they could imagine. A teenager could fill her closet a few times over with her own babysitting money, and every parent will like that!
Shopping in our Southern cities is divine, and these new stores will delight! Enjoy!
