Pantone Announces Its 2019 Color of the Year

And It’s More Than Just Another Pretty Shade of Pink

Pantone Color Institute seeks to send a serious message about the environment with 2019’s hue of pink with golden undertones: Living Coral. In a press release, Pantone says the color “is evocative of how coral reefs provide shelter to a diverse kaleidoscope of color.”

The color offers a glimmer of hope in a dismal reality: coral reefs are being destroyed at an alarming rate. While the color is meant to bring awareness to the plight of the seas, it offers us a rich nurturing hue that has a long history in art and fashion. Coral’s triumphant return has us throwing the warm color on our faces and on our bodies from sneakers to gowns.
