NEW YORK — In a celebration of the publishing industry’s most exceptional creative achievements, ELYSIAN — a luxury lifestyle magazine created to inspire and reflect the interests of accomplished women — rose above giants when Creator-in-Chief Ryan Stalvey won special recognition as Art Director of the Year at the 2025 Eddie & Ozzie Awards.
Often described as the Academy Awards of publishing, the Eddies & Ozzies honor the highest achievements in editorial content and design across global media. This year’s winners included icons such as Consumer Reports, InStyle, Travel + Leisure, and McClatchy Media — placing ELYSIAN and Stalvey in rare company.
“We are proud because the world recognizes the talent that comes from ELYSIAN, located on Main Street of a small town in South Carolina,” ELYSIAN Founder and Publisher Karen Floyd said. “Ryan Stalvey represents everything good about the publishing industry. It has been a privilege to watch his genius at work, and we are filled with gratitude that is recognized globally. We are so honored to work with him.”
Art Director of the Year is presented to an individual for overall creative leadership and excellence in art direction, making it distinct from categories that focus on specific design elements or publications.
As such, Stalvey joins an echelon of creatives whose visual storytelling sets new benchmarks in editorial design. His distinctive style — marked by cinematic imagery, evocative typography, and compositional elegance — has been integral to ELYSIAN’s evolution from an inspired concept into a global multimedia platform spanning print, digital, film, television, and live experiences.
“It’s so easy to get lost in the work. There’s an old saying that the ‘reader lives vicariously through the pages of a magazine,’ but so too does the designer,” Stalvey said. “Magazines are an escape – from the world around us, from ourselves. A magazine can be uplifting or inspirational. But before the reader gets that experience, it must first be envisioned and conceived by the designer. It’s a very special process of creation, one the designer emotionally attaches him/herself to. Often designers get lost in that process, one deadline leads to the next, and we forget how impactful that issue was to us… or could ever be to the world. Then along comes an award like this that makes it so apparent. What we do does matter. Magazines do matter. To be recognized among the best in the world affirms that our work touches people — not just visually, but viscerally.”
With ten national awards for design and creative direction, Stalvey’s work has consistently been recognized for redefining the boundaries of modern magazine design. His latest accolade was announced at the Eddie & Ozzie Awards celebration in New York on Monday.
Now in its tenth anniversary year, ELYSIAN continues to expand its global footprint through print, digital, film, and television — celebrating Women Inspiring Women and redefining what luxury media can be: timeless, purposeful, and profoundly human.
