On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a brutal invasion of Ukraine, unleashing a wave of destruction and human suffering. As the world watched in horror, Publisher and Producer Karen Floyd risked everything to travel into the heart of the conflict. Determined to give a voice to the silenced, she witnessed firsthand the devastation that war brings to ordinary lives. The shattered cities, displaced families, and untold stories she encountered are a testament to the resilience of the human spirit in the face of unimaginable darkness. These are their stories.

Story

When Publisher of ELYSIAN magazine and Executive Producer Karen Floyd returned from Ukraine after filming Fight for Ukraine: Twelve Women’s War, she kept thinking about the other stories—the stories of the soldiers who sacrificed their lives and lost limbs, the women who were left holding the families and society together as those men left. She thought about why these women stayed and what gave them hope. Floyd discovered it was always for the children, a metaphor for the future.

Inspired by a dramatic mural in Kiev of three pair of hands — a male soldier’s, enfolding a woman’s hands, which are protecting a child’s, in turn — producer Karen Floyd returns to the embattled country searching for meaning in the mural, looking for hope in a war-torn world. Ukraine: For the Children is a 90-minute American documentary film and sequel to ELYSIAN Production’s 2023 international award-winning documentary, Fight for Ukraine: Twelve Women’s War.

sYNOPSIS

Floyd, a lawyer, women’s and children’s advocate, and founder of ELYSIAN Multimedia, celebrates the fortitude, commitment, and sacrifice of the Ukrainian people.

Continuing her life’s work of giving a voice to “the silent,” Floyd enters the destroyed homes and devastated Ukrainian communities in search of hope. In the face of danger, amidst the battles and bombings in cities and villages, she deepens her understanding as she witnesses the sacrifices of limb and life on the Ukrainian frontlines.

It is there that Floyd discovers what she has been searching for: that the courage and perseverance of the people come down to one thing—the hope of the nation and the future of the motherland lie with the children.
