While visiting a holding facility, Mariah Joseph and her team noticed a horse lying in a pen, barely able to breathe. Others walked by, indifferent to her suffering, but Mariah and her team recognized the urgency. With coordinated effort, they moved the other horses and negotiated with facility management for hours to secure the emaciated animal. She was so weak that she had to be physically dragged to safety. A veterinarian confirmed the worst: the horse was suffering, and the only mercy she could be offered was release from pain. In her final moments, she was named Mercy—a symbol of the compassion she so desperately needed. Though her life was brief, Mercy’s story ignited a mission: every horse deserves care, dignity, and love.
