The Civilian: A New Hotel Opens on Broadway

by Elysian Magazine

Hotelier Jason Pomeranc is opening a new hotel in New York.  In this challenging climate, when New York hotels are struggling to stay on top of masks and vaccination mandates, that’s amazing news.  What’s even more amazing is the location—in midtown, Off-Broadway.  This fall, Broadway’s back.  The lights are back on.  And when it’s all in full swing, 88 shows will be performing live. And that’s what Jason Pomeranc’s banking on.

The Civilian Hotel is located at 305 West 48th Street.  With 203 rooms, a restaurant, secret garden, guest lounge, library, and rooftop bar. Designed by architect David Rockwell in partnership with Joy Construction, Madd Equities and Atlas Hospitality. The hotel “will merge accessible luxury, functionality, and high design with a focus on convenience and bespoke experiences for a modern traveler.” The hotel’s theme is all about New York’s legendary Theater District.  Inspired by stage lighting, stage and backstage elements, dramatic curtains, and the life and excitement that Broadway is famous for.

Exciting, too, is a permanent and curated art program “by emerging and established theatre creatives and contemporary Broadway photographers” which will be on a rotating display.

Guests will be given options when they make their reservations, such as food and beverage amenities, opting out of housekeeping, and wifi speed.
