‘Wrapping Up‘ the Holidays with Family

The holiday season is a time for togetherness with family and friends. As the festivities wind down and the New Year is upon us, it’s essential to bring forward our most cherished memories from the holidays. Here are some thoughtful ways to continue the warm, cozy feelings from the holiday season into 2024.

Remember the special moments you shared during the holidays. Was it the dinner preparation and having everyone get involved that felt good? Was it sitting together in the mornings with a hot cup of coffee or hot chocolate that created that inner warmth? Reminisce about the highlights of your time together with loved ones and try to incorporate those moments into your new year. Perhaps it is difficult to do it every day, but it is entirely possible to add a new weekend or Friday evening routine. This reflection and carrying forward helps solidify the positive memories and leaves everyone with a warm feeling as you venture into the new year.

In my family, after unwrapping presents, we sit together and play games for hours. Organizing or secretly putting together a “spontaneous” family game night to end the holidays and carry on a fun, lighthearted routine can add a special zest to your family time. Board games, card games, or even a friendly video game can provide hours of entertainment and bonding. It’s a great way to involve family members of all ages and create lasting memories.

While saying goodbye to the holidays, look ahead and start planning for future family gatherings or vacations. Having something to look forward to can ease the transition from holiday mode back to daily life and keep everyone excited about future adventures together.

Finally, remember the gratitude felt throughout the holidays. Take moments to express gratitude for the times you’ve shared and the love you have for one another. It doesn’t have to be anything major, but even in the little day-to-day things – saying “please” and “thank you” and showing how much you appreciate and care for one another will continue the holiday spirit into your lives together. Even teenagers and children will feel the special bond that comes with a simple “thank you.” Gratitude is the attitude that creates abundance in our lives. The holidays are a reminder of how good that feels for all of us.

The holiday season is a time for creating cherished memories and strengthening family bonds. By reflecting on the moments, continuing to engage in fun activities, and expressing gratitude, you can begin the new year with warmth and a sense of togetherness that can carry you forward.
