Designer Spotlight: Tamara Mellon

by Elysian Magazine

ELYSIAN takes a look at the latest collection from shoe guru and founder of Jimmy Choo Tamara Mellon

Tamara Mellon is a triple threat: fashion designer, businesswoman, and magazine editor. Her entrepreneurial prowess and her contributions to the British fashion industry saw her awarded with an OBE (Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) by the Queen Elizabeth II in 2010.

In 1996, while working as accessories editor at Vogue, Tamara Mellon approached Jimmy Choo, a bespoke shoemaker in the East London. Mellon recognized the potential for development of high-end designer accessories and posed the idea to Choo of launching a ready-to-wear luxury shoe company. And thus iconic luxury footwear brand, Jimmy Choo, was born.

Mellon eventually sold her shares and left her post as chief creative officer and co-founder at Jimmy Choo and went on to launch the Tamara Mellon brand, offering a range of shoes, handbags and accessories. Mellon put a female CEO and nearly all-female team in place, a decision that, Mellon says, has made all the difference in the world.

The latest shoe collection from Tamara Mellon is all about indulgence and luxury for women who know what they deserve. It’s a celebration of the femme fatale — a woman who can be soft but is certainly not sweet. A micro-studded, laser-cut warrior on the go.
