Spotlight on Lola Debney

by Elysian Magazine

ELYSIAN Inspiring Woman LOLA DEBNEY is a busy woman. In the past two years alone, the award-winning music producer has coordinated the music scores for 10 films—most recently, Home Sweet Home Alone and Clifford the Big Red Dog, and, in addition, twelve episodes of the TV series, The Orville.

In her June 2021 interview with ELYSIAN publisher KAREN FLOYD, Lola spoke of the source of the strength she has needed to juggle her profession with her family and personal life: “I repeat, “Our Father, Hail Mary” to prepare me for meditation. I listen to Christian music. Lately, there is silence when I’m driving. I just go inward. I pause to listen to my inward thoughts.” And when asked what advice she cared to share, she replied, “Trust. Trust yourself. Trust your intuition. Continue to do that, always.”

Lola’s road has had many twists and turns since, at the age of 21, she was pursuing a career in nursing. It was then she met her future husband and musical collaborator, John, 24, who would become one of the most prolific and successful composers in Hollywood and one of Disney’s long-time collaborators. The couple are currently composing and producing the score for Hocus Pocus 2, which is currently filming, with the original cast reprising their roles as the three sister-witches, Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy.
