The day began with a tour led by Jan and Jon Zakin, of the Brasswood Winery caves. With a special barrel tasting of the Zakin 2021 wine (to be released in 2024) two dozen lucky friends, guests, and connoisseurs were treated to a tour of shiny, high-tech wine-making facilities before being led through the warmth of stacked oak barrels, where grape juice is transformed into wine. Amongst the barrels, Jan offered everyone a sip of newly pressed wine, so they could act as a “wine thief” might, tasting the wine in-progress.
After learning about the process, the couple led the group to a covered arbor abutting the vines, full of the beautiful dark grapes that have inspired wine lovers for millennia, where they tasted delightful wines paired with small bites. Breezes wafted, stories abounded, and the wine flowed.
