Red and Blue: A Call for Humanity is an idea that has percolated over this past decade. Much like the vision for CatWalk FurBaby or the very launch of ELYSIAN itself . . . the concept grew stronger with time. I eventually decided it could no longer be ignored.
Watching our world today, I am struck by how deeply divided we have become. Red versus blue. Left versus right. National versus global. The lines drawn so sharply that conversation itself feels risky, and common ground seems shameful—almost like foreign territory. What began as healthy debate has hardened into something more corrosive—echo chambers that amplify anger, media that rewards outrage, and a culture that too often mistakes rigidity for strength. Families are strained, friendships tested, communities fractured. I have watched this unfold not just from afar, but through the lens of my own life in public service and now through stories in ELYSIAN.
The question lingers: How did we arrive here? And, more importantly, how do we move forward? It is precisely in this moment that I see the extraordinary value proposition women bring to leadership. We are hardwired to work through difficult situations with a unique perspective . . . one forged in the daily alchemy of holding space for competing needs, emotions, and futures. Where ideology calcifies, we instinctively lean into relationship, nuance, and the long game of healing. We have done this for generations: in homes where we balance child-rearing and aging parents, in workplaces where we quietly build teams that endure, and in crises where we prioritize people over positions.
This capacity to hold multiple truths without fracture is not softness; it is seasoned wisdom. It is the quiet strength that turns walls into pathways and strangers into sisters. This understanding has guided ELYSIAN from its inception. Our mission has always been to inspire . . . to excite the imagination, to be aspirational and experiential, to give voice without echoing division. Over more than a decade, we have chronicled women who embody this spirit, whose stories of strength, perseverance, forgiveness, love, and hope have graced our pages because they choose humanity first.
Which, in simple terms, is why the Red and Blue: A Call for Humanity summit now comes to life. This participant- led and solution-driven gathering brings national women together in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Co-chaired by Donna Brazile and Lara Trump (former chairwomen of the Democratic National Committee and Republican National Committee, respectively), the summit seeks to set aside differences and work together on one project spanning the next decade. This small, yet wieldy group is paired equally between one Democrat, one Republican, and one ELYSIAN Inspiring Woman. Modeled after the Sun Valley Conference and the Renaissance Weekend, elected officials and thought leaders will engage in confidential, forward-focused dialogue.
As we dedicate this issue to the Red and Blue theme, I invite you to reflect on your unique role in a world that often rewards the most strident and hardest lines. Consider this your moment to step forward . . . not as a spectator, but as a weaver of purple threads. The summit’s participants will model what is possible when women lead with both grace and grit. May their courage, collaboration, and commitment to humanity spark the same in you.
Thank you for sharing this journey with us. I dream these women who participate in the summit lift your spirit and inspire you, as they do me.
Much love,

Karen Floyd
